PLIK PLOK: Ralph “Plik Plok” Montejo was raised in the Northern California Bay Area Soul/Funk era of music in the 1970s and early 1980s. According to his mother and family relatives, he responded to music via dance movement very early in his childhood, referencing as far back the 1974 hit song “Dancing Machine” released by the Jackson 5. He lived through the Bay Area essence and transition of music and dance culture from Soul/Funk to the early days of Electro-Funk and Hip-Hop. He is a product of the local Bay Area Talent Show history, culture and heritage by performing group robotic style dance routines for cash prizes and trophies. His dance experience also includes performing on the streets of San Francisco, California USA (Powell Street / Market Street / Fisherman’s Wharf / Pier 39) and community social house parties. His dance styles range from the forms of Northern California Bay Area Boogaloo, Robot and Strutting (BRS), to the trendy social house party dances of the early 1980s. February 1983 marked the final performance by his BRS robot dance group “The Criminons” on San Francisco’s KOFY TV20’s “Dance Party” local television show. From that point, he watched the Hip-Hop culture and community grow into an industry. He continued with his education by finishing at El Cerrito High School in 1987 and jump-starting college at Cal State University, Hayward (now, CSU East Bay) and continuing at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He finished with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Marketing at CSULB in 1995 and began working in the Bay Area corporate business arena thereafter. By Fall of 1995, he returned to his roots of urban dance and entered into the world of entertainment. He joined dance members “Boogaloo” Dana Dorham, Tommy “Fayzo” Washington and Cleo “Justice” Smith to help form the 4-member BRS-Style dance group called “Medea Sirkas” from their then current status named “The Mysterious Few”. After five strong years with the dance group Medea Sirkas, he resigned in 2000 to create a new dance entity entitled the Audionauts. By 2000- 2001, he also created the moniker, Doctor Plik Plok, under his new independent entertainment company, PLIK PLOK Entertainment. In addition, he developed his BRS Styles dance teachings into the area of education under his program name M.I.N.D.-S.Y.N.C. (acronym for Movement Involving Neuro-transmitted Determination by Synchronized and Yearning Creativity) at Contra Costa County School District’s Lincoln Elementary School (Richmond, CA USA), and became a co-founder of the branding of BRS Dance Styles and the BRS Alliance organization with Lonnie “Pop Tart” Green.
